Elections
AUSU holds regular elections to ensure that our Student Council is representative of the diverse student body at Athabasca University. Information on upcoming elections can be found here.
Committees
AUSU committees:
- Operations & Financial Health Committee (OFHC): The Operations & Financial Health Committee provides oversight of AUSU’s financial, operational, and administrative systems. OFHC monitors the annual budget, reviews financial statements, evaluates contracts requiring committee‑level oversight, and ensures AUSU’s internal controls and risk‑management practices are followed. The committee also reviews audit findings, monitors reserves and investments, and makes recommendations to Council on financial and operational matters. OFHC helps ensure AUSU remains transparent, accountable, and financially sustainable.
- Strategic Engagement Committee (SEC): The Strategic Engagement Committee leads AUSU’s work in community building, student wellness, inclusion, and engagement. SEC advances initiatives from the Council Workplan, supports equity and accessibility, and oversees student‑led subgroups that contribute to AUSU’s strategic priorities. The committee plans and evaluates programs that strengthen belonging, support student well‑being, and enhance the overall AU student experience. SEC helps ensure AUSU’s services and initiatives reflect the needs and voices of our diverse membership.
Subgroups
Subgroups are short‑term, student‑led teams that work under the direction of a Councillor to support specific Council Workplan objectives or engagement initiatives. They provide opportunities for students to contribute ideas, collaborate with peers, and help shape AUSU programs in a focused, project‑based environment.
Subgroups do not make decisions on behalf of AUSU; all subgroup work is subject to Council approval.
Get Involved
AUSU periodically invites students to participate in subgroups and engagement projects throughout the year. These opportunities are a great way to contribute your voice, build community, and support initiatives that matter to AU learners.
Check back on this page for future opportunities to participate.
