Kelly Miller
Chair | BSc, General, Physics & Chemistry



Kelly brings extensive experience in systems coordination, community advocacy, and public engagement, with a strong focus on improving accessibility and supporting
individuals through complex systems. Drawing on professional experience with non- profits, municipal agencies, and process improvement initiatives, Kelly is passionate about creating transparent, student-centered structures that strengthen support, equity, and long-term student success.

Kelly is always happy to hear from students — whether you have feedback, questions,
ideas, or just want to connect and share your experience as an AU student.
Michelina Hamilton
Digital Citizenship & Community | BA, Psychology


Michelina transitioned into post-secondary education at Athabasca University at age 16, following a self-directed homeschooling education. She brings a unique perspective on independent studies and is dedicated to fostering an accessible, connected, and supportive online learning environment. She focuses on ensuring remote learners have the networks and resources they need to thrive.

Michelina welcomes students to reach out with ideas or questions; her goal is to advocate for an inclusive virtual campus where every learner feels valued.
Carmen Griffin
Equity, Belonging & Reconciliation Councillor | Bachelor of Commerce


Carmen is passionate about building inclusive, student-centered spaces where all
learners feel represented, supported, and heard. As a full-time professional, parent of

two, immigrant, and first-generation university student, she understands the realities of
balancing education with work, family, and life responsibilities, and is committed to
advocating for equitable and meaningful student experiences.

Carmen encourages students to connect, share their perspectives, and help shape a
stronger, more inclusive student community together.
Ellen Cobham
Wellness & Accessibility Councillor | BA, Psychology; Minor in Inclusive
Education


Ellen is passionate about supporting student well-being, promoting inclusive and barrier-
free education, and helping students feel connected throughout their academic
journeys. As a wife and mother of three, she understands the challenges of balancing
education, family life, and wellness, and brings a compassionate and approachable
perspective to her role within the Students’ Union.

If you have questions, ideas, or concerns related to wellness or accessibility, Ellen
encourages students to reach out and connect.
Kanzas DeValkenaere
Learning & Success Councillor | BSc, Labour Studies; Minor in French


Kanzas is passionate about advancing student rights, accessibility, and equitable
learning experiences. As a retired paramedic pursuing a second career in labour
advocacy and education, they bring strong critical thinking, compassion, and lived
experience as a First Nations, queer, and neurodivergent student to their work
advocating for more accessible, transparent, and student-focused supports at AU.

Kanzas welcomes students to reach out, share their experiences, and connect about
ways to improve accessibility, learning supports, and student success at AU.
Gabby Wilson
Public Policy & Advocacy Councillor | Bachelor of Human Resources and Labour Relations


Gabby is passionate about advocacy, accountability, and ensuring students feel heard
and represented in decision-making. Drawing on her experience in union representation
and member engagement, she is committed to strengthening communication,
increasing accessibility to supports, and helping create meaningful, positive outcomes
for students.

Gabby encourages students to reach out with questions, concerns, or ideas and is
committed to maintaining an open, approachable, and responsive connection with the student community.
Rob Ingram
Financial Support & Access Councillor | BSc, Computing and Information Systems


Rob is passionate about making education accessible and affordable for all students.
Drawing on his experience in governance, accessibility advocacy, technology, and
community fundraising, he is committed to supporting academic quality, equitable
access to resources, and responsible financial stewardship that delivers meaningful
value to students.

Rob welcomes students to connect with him to share their experiences, challenges,
and ideas for improving student supports and accessibility at AU.
Nimmi Mathew
Finance & Accountability Councillor | BSc, Commerce in Accounting


Nimmi is passionate about helping students feel more connected, informed, and
supported throughout their AU journey. As a parent, full-time employee, and student,
she understands the challenges of balancing multiple responsibilities and is committed
to improving awareness of student resources, strengthening communication, and
ensuring transparency and accountability in student representation.

Amy Nicks
Finance & Accountability Councillor | BA, Psychology & English


Amy is passionate about supporting students through strong communication,
accountability, and thoughtful problem-solving. With years of leadership and operations
experience in customer service management, she brings a collaborative and solutions-
focused approach to improving student supports, organizational processes, and
responsible stewardship of student resources.

Amy encourages students to reach out with feedback, ideas, or concerns and looks
forward to connecting with and learning from the diverse AU student community.
